Simulated Altitude Training Concept

Simulated altitude training works by immersing the body in an oxygen reduced atmosphere. After a while training in this unusual environment can cause the body to adapt in an effort to more effectively utilise the lower oxygen in order to produce the energy needed to train.
As a result, our heart, lungs, muscles and blood oxygen flow become more efficient and when back in normal conditions, we can become fitter, faster, stronger, improve our endurance or simply speed up our health & weight loss goals.

Significant results can be seen is as few as 8 sessions*

The Proof

Background

Mexico Olympics 1968

Altitude training has been around for more than 40 years and came to prominence at the 1968 Mexico Olympics (Mexico City sits at 2240m elevation) where a range of performance anomalies was attributed to the high altitude conditions.

Nowadays, altitude training is used by the world’s elite athletes to significantly enhance endurance, power and speed to levels not attainable with normal training routines.

In fact, a survey of medal winners from the 2004 Athens Olympic Games found that more than 80% used altitude training (real or simulated) as part of their preparation.

Interestingly the notorious Italian physician, Dr Michele Ferrari, in January 2013 stated that Lance Armstrong could have achieved the same levels of performance-enhancement through altitude training as he did from his doping practices.

Scientifically Proven Results

Training at altitude (a hypoxic environment) is scientifically proven to trigger a range of physiological responses not achievable in normal training programs as the body adapts to cope with the reduction of oxygen taken into the lungs. These physiological adaptions include enhanced fat metabolism, boosted production of red blood cells and capillaries and a strengthened immune system, and can lead to significant improvements in your performance, health and fitness.

Up to 37% more endurance (exercise-till-exhaustion)
Up to 25% more efficient workout than at sea-level
Up to 15% more weight loss
Up to 9% more strength
Up to 3% more power and speed

The proof of the effectiveness of Altitude Training is evidenced by its elite pro athlete users.

I was able to hit my first race in Europe the La Sarthe Tour in France with a higher level of ability than I think I would have without the machine. I won the King of the Mountains Jersey in that tour which was the first time I had done so.“

Programs

Altitude Training Australia exists to bring state-of-the-art elite sports
training technology to benefit everyday aspiring Australians

From Olympians to Octogenarians (older folk) and everyone in between, training at altitude can help improve sports and event performance, weight loss, injury rehabilitation, seniors fitness and altitude acclimatisation. No matter what your fitness goal, motivation or ability level, we can help you raise your game.

We offer a comprehensive range of affordable and fully supervised training programs run by accredited altitude trainers. There are six programs to choose from and as everyone tolerates altitude differently, there are different levels within the programs from basic to advanced.

1. General Health and Fitness: Achieve More for Less
Reach new health & fitness highs in less time and lose weight with less effort

Altitude training is a great way to kick start you’re weight loss journey or take your existing fitness to a new high. Our facility can be used like a normal gym and you can train when and as often as you like. Either by yourself, with your personal trainer or in one of our group training sessions. Our accredited altitude trainers can develop a training program for you to become lighter and fitter than doing the same workout you would do in an ordinary gym.

Physical Results
  • More efficient work out than at sea level (up to 25%)
  • Decreased resting heart-rate and blood pressure
  • Up to 15% weight loss with 3 times as many calories burned due to continued burn post work-out.
Physiological Adaptions
  • Enhanced fat metabolism and basal metabolic rate (BMR)
2. Sports Performance (Individual and team)
Raise Your Game

Gain an unfair competitive advantage, legally. Get fitter faster. Attain more power, more speed, more strength, more endurance.

Using altitude training concepts such as repeat sprint hypoxia has been of immense benefit to sporting teams the world over including our very own NRL and AFL teams. Let our accredited altitude trainers work with you to develop training protocols to raise your game. Team packages and sessions can also be arranged.

Physical Results
  • More efficient work out than at sea level (up to 25%)
  • Decreased resting heart-rate and blood pressure
  • Enhanced power output and speed
  • Improved strength (up to 9%) and endurance
  • Increased VO2 max (max. rate of oxygen usage)
  • Increased exercise-till-exhaustion (ETE) time (37%)
  • Reduced recovery time after exertion
  • Diminished overall fatigue
Physiological Adaptions
  • Enhanced glycogen metabolism at an increased rate
  • Boosted production of Erythropoietin Hormone (EPO), stimulating production of new red blood cells.
  • New blood capillary growth
  • Increased ability to buffer lactic acid
  • Strengthened immune system

3. Race / Event Preparation (Cycling, Running, Swimming & Triathlons)
Outlast and Outsprint Opponents

Gain an unfair competitive advantage, legally. Get fitter faster. Gain more power, more speed, more strength, more endurance and smash your personal best.

Altitude training has become an accepted part of the training regime for marathon runners, tri-athletes and cyclists around the world with over 80% of Olympians training at altitude. Altitude training can be used to maintain your fitness from weekend to weekend or build fitness in one of our group training session at 4000m such as Alti-sprints or Sufferfest. You can bring your own bike or ride/run a virtual route. Our accredited altitude trainers can help you develop specific training programs for your next event to ensure that you have every chance to smash your personal best and your opponents.

4. Injury Rehabilitation
Train With Less Strain

Maintain aerobic fitness with less strain on your injury

Altitude training training enables those with injuries to get a cardiovascular workout and enjoy the physiological benefits of altitude with less mechanical load or effort. Our accredited altitude trainers can tailor specific classes and packages for your individual injury rehabilitation and recovery.

Physical Results
  • More efficient work out than at sea level (up to 25%)
  • Decreased resting heart-rate and blood pressure
  • Reduced musculo-skeletal load
5. Seniors Fitness
Train With Less Strain

Altitude training enables those with mobilty issues to get a cardiovascular workout and enjoy the physiological benefits of altitude with less mechanical load or effort. We provide special classes and packages for senior citizens that combines low impact exercise with altitude conditions for maximum benefits.

6. Pre-Acclimitisation
More Up, Less Down

Have less downtime on your skiing, trekking, or climbing adventure

Lower oxygen at higher altitude and lack of acclimatisation can lead to Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and compromise your skiing ,trekking or climbing holiday. Acute AMS can strike as low as 2000m and many ski fields are up to 4000m. While AMS affects people in different ways, Altitude training can help reduce or buffer against the symptoms of AMS and reduce the time you need to spend acclimatising on site. You will also arrive fitter, stronger and better equipped to deal with the rigours of activity at altitude.

Physical Results
  • More efficient work out than at sea level (up to 25%)
  • Decreased resting heart-rate and blood pressure
  • Less effort for same calorie burn

As little as two sessions per week* have been found to improve aerobic capacity and fitness beyond what could be achieved at sea-level. There are multiple attendance packages to choose from.

Irrespective of which program you adopt, you can join in group training sessions such as AltiSprint or just turn up and ‘freestyle’ by yourself or with a Personal Trainer.

The training facility

The gym is divided into two areas:

A simulated altitude training chamber

A sea-level area

The chamber

training-facility-chamber-1The chamber is powered by the global leaders in Altitude Training technology, ATS.

www.ats-altitude.com.au

On entering the altitude training chamber, you may feel the difference in atmosphere.

At sea-level the air has an oxygen (O2) concentration of about 21% and within the chamber, this decreases to between 16% – 11% corresponding with oxygen concentrations experienced at up to 5000m equivalent altitude.

On exiting the chamber, many people report a sense of euphoria and invincibility as the body experiences a rush of oxygen richness.
